Top 15 Albums of 2009: #1

# 2

  • 1. Lucero, 1372 Overton Park – About 30 seconds into my first listen of 1372 Overton Park I knew Lucero had made my favorite album of the year. It is been a joy to watch them play in larger and larger venues over the years and likewise is it a joy to hear their sound mature and grow more complex with each album. Rebels, Rogues & Sworn Brothers brought in excellent piano, and here the horns join in and the whole thing works. A brilliant Memphis soul record, a damn fine Lucero record, their best album yet, the best album of the year. Stand out tracks: “Smoke” & “Hey Darlin’, Do You Gamble”
