Bombadil Merch Table, Cat’s Cradle, Carrboro NC, 11/12/11, originally uploaded by Ash Crowe.
I try to cover a good mix of music here but, without a doubt, there are people and bands I’m 100% biased about.
Bombadil is one of those bands. They are a band that I’ve known for many years. It has been a complete pleasure to watch them grow as musicians, as people, as friends.
This is the album, this was the show, that all fans and friends of the band wanted to see, the album/the show I’m not sure we really thought we’d see.
But, oh the album is beautiful. And Saturday night at the Cradle was an amazing release of energy (and a CD). More on the concert itself tomorrow.
First, though, I was honored and happy to give up a Saturday afternoon cursing at football to hang out at the Cradle with the band.
It means tons to me that they trusted me with the quiet moments, the nervous fretting, the anticipation.
From loading in, to working out the number of mics needed (one more than there are people in the band, for the record), to literally setting out milk and cookies for the people who came in right at doors.
I hope the soundcheck photos capture that quiet beauty, the calm before the storm, the realization of something that seemed impossible for a time.
Guys, thanks again for the trust you put in me to capture those moments. I hope y’all, and everyone, can see in the photos what I saw as I raised the camera.
